Know the Law:
AB 2077 passed and became effective January 1, 2021. The law amends Health and Safety Code 11364. . All supplies that reduce the harm associated with substance use (including safe smoking supplies) shall not be illegal to possess for personal use whether they are use. “Until January 1, 2026, as a public health measure intended to prevent the transmission of HIV, viral hepatitis, and other bloodborne diseases among persons who use syringes and hypodermic needles, and to prevent subsequent infection of sexual partners, newborn children, or other persons, this section shall not apply to the possession solely for personal use of hypodermic needles or syringes.”
California Department of Public Health created very clear and useful fact sheet that you can access here. You can pick up a card with AB 2077 outlined from us on any of our outreach days to carry with you in case of confrontation or harassment from police.
